INEC releases dates for 2019 general elections

The dates for the 2019 general elections have been fixed.
National Commissioner, Publicity, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Solomon Soyebi, speaking yesterday during a media parley, said Presidential, National Assembly and governorship elections will hold on February 16, 2019, while State Assembly and Federal Capital Territory Area Councils polls will hold on March 2, 2019.
Mr. Soyebi said that fixing of the dates was part of efforts by INEC to standardize and ensure certainty of timetable for general elections in the country.
He further confirmed the receipt of applications for the registration of Advanced Peoples Democratic Party, APDP, and eighty-three other political associations seeking registration as political parties.
