INEC indicts twenty three officials over involvement in election malpractice

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, today indicted Twenty three officials, for receiving three hundred and sixty million naira from Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, during the December 10, 2016, re-reun election in the state.
The accused challenged the territorial jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in Abuja to hear and determine the seven-count criminal charge the federal government initiated against them, insisting that they would not be tried in Abuja over the alleged crime committed in Rivers State.
The charge alleged that the accused persons had between December 7 and 10, 2016, converted, concealed and took possession of the sum of three hundred and sixty million naira bribe, in violation of various provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act
In the meantime, the defendants who appeared before trial Justice John Tsoho, declined to enter their plea to the charge.
