Group Urges South-East to Discard 2019 Presidency Ambition
A Civil Society Organisation, the Igbo Conscience Group has appealed to the people of South-East to ignore an advice telling them to call for Igbo presidency in 2019.
It would be recalled that former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, gave this advice on Tuesday while hosting the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, saying the region is yet to produce a democratically elected president.
Reacting to Chief Obasanjo’s advice, the Chairman of the group, Mr. Onyekachi Ubani, today stated that such call is capable of causing political miscalculation both on the part of the region and other regions of the country.
Mr. Ubani opined that South-East can only bid for Igbo presidency in 2019 if there is a consensus from the people of Northern and Western regions, advising the Igbos to avoid political miscalculation that happened in the past which he claimed brought former President Goodluck Jonathan to power.
