14 March 2017 Africa International

An Egyptian prosecutor has approved the release from detention of the country’s former president, Hosni Mubarak who is currently confined to a military hospital in Cairo.

The decision follows a court ruling earlier this month which ordered the dropping of charges that linked Mr. Mubarak to the killing of dozens of protesters in the 2011 uprising that ended his rule.

The former president who has served a three-year sentence for embezzlement is expected to return to his Cairo home soon.
